The suras are arranged roughly in length, but not in order of revelation.
The longest sura is the second, the shortest is sura 108 with only three verses.
The suras are not directly related to each other, each sura can stand on its own.
The order is nevertheless considered important by Muslims and the suras are therefore recited in order.
Each sura has a name that often refers to its content.
The time of the revelation and the place of revelation (Mecca or Medina) are just as important for the interpretation of the Koran as the reasons for the revelation.
These occasions are explained in supplementary works such as the Asbāb nuzūl al-Qurʾān.
The Koran itself is written in rhyming prose (saj), i.e.
in a poetic language.
